Thomas Nesbitt was raised in the northeastern United States. He moved to Virginia to attend the College of William & Mary, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy. He attended law school at the University of Memphis School of Law before returning to Virginia to serve as a judicial clerk for the Supreme Court of Virginia. Mr. Nesbitt chose to make his permanent home in Richmond. After three years in the Office of the Attorney General, he founded the Nesbitt Law Firm in 2010.
